FIN 247 – Assignment 5

Smiley Face Rock

For this Assignment, I again, took my dog for a walk but this time through the trails and hill behind the neighborhood I live in. It was such a nice day out and felt good to get outside and enjoy the weather on trail. I gained a lot of inspiration from the trees and nature. My goal was to take a variety of images, using different subjects to try and capture the elements of form. As I walked along the trail, different areas would peak my interest and I would stop and take photographs of the things I thought looked cool. If anything, I wish I took more photographs, because they didn’t all turn out as good as I was hoping, but that’s apart of the process and fun. I set my camera to manual mode and fiddled with the settings as I went along. It really depended on where the sun was shinning and the orientation of my subject. I’m looking forward to editing these images to see the final product. Thank you!

FIN 247 – Assignment 4

Throughout the past week I had fun experimenting with my camera. I find it easiest to take my camera out while taking the dog for a walk. When I bring my camera, I definitely “stop to smell the roses” and look around at nature more so than I normally would. I’ll look for the growing texture coming out of a tree and I get a lot of inspiration from the trees and generally just being in nature.

FIN 247 – UNIT 2 – ASSIGNMENT 2

Drfitwood

Hello! For this assignment, I brought my dog and Canon Rebel XSI to a local beach in Victoria and went for a walk. I came to this beach because I love the driftwood, the sand and the ocean and wanted to try and capture its beauty. It was a really cloudy, overcast day and found for my images, it was difficult to edit without the sky looking completely blown out. I took many pictures and had a lot of fun along the way. My favorite image of the day, was the one with the log slightly cropped out. I’m realizing, the images I’m most happy with have an interesting angle. I felt like it was good practice editing using Lightroom Classic but I definitely need to continue to practice and tinker with the advanced settings.

FIN 247 Assignment 3

For this assignment I chose to photograph some of my jewelry. I set up the scene directly beside a window with natural light. I managed to balance a small table on a cooler. I used an empty canvas and draped this navy blue fabric over it and also used it for some shading. I had such a hard time with this assignment and wasn’t totally happy with the results but I think I also learned so much. I wish I captured more images with using the wooden table because I think it adds a nice organic texture to the scene. I did many adjustments throughout the shoot and was able to capture a variety of scenes successfully. The tripod really came in handy for this assignment and it took me a little while to get the angles I was aiming for. All the YouTube videos were very helpful for the whole overall process.

FIN 247 Assignment 2

Mushroom Growing on a Tree Stump

For this assignment I went for a walk around a lovely local trail, that leads to the beach, located in Metchosin BC. The last photo is taken later that night to take advantage of the low light conditions outside. For each assignment photo, I tried to take the replicated shot using my iPhone.

FIN 247 Assignment 1 – Part 3

For part 3 of this assignment, I set up a little scene using my crystals and set up the scene outdoors with bright backlighting and dark fore lighting. I am using my canon rebel XSI with a lens of EFS 18-55mm. This part was a little more challenging than the first 2 but I had the most fun with this one.

Camera_1 Part 3-1

The subject as a silhouette are the 2 crystals with the bright sky as the backlighting. My camera was set on spot metering with a shutter speed of 1/20 and an f/stop of f/8. With an ISO of 400. The crystals were nicely lit against the wooden table with a blurred background.

Crystals

Camera_1 Part 3-2

For the second shot, I was aiming to under expose the image. My shutter speed was set to 1/20 with an f/stop of f/8 and an ISO of 400. The image is darker and the focus also changed to focus on the background resulting the crystals to become blurred.

Crystals

Camera_1 Part 3-3

For my final image, I wanted to overexpose the crystals. The photograph is slightly blurred with a shutter speed of 1/10 and an f/stop of f/8. Next time, I would like to capture an over exposed image without the slight blur.

FIN 247 Assignment 1 – Part 2

Tree Trunk

For part 2 of assignment 1, I found this beautiful tree trunk with vibrant green moss growing on it around Matheson Lake in Victoria. I set my camera to manual mode and played around with the settings until I was happy. I had issues with my photographs when set to a shutter speed of 1/100 and an f/stop of f/8 and the images weren’t turning out at all. I was using my canon rebel XSI with a lens of 18-55mm.

Camera_1 Part 2-1

My ISO was set to 400 and set my shutter speed of 1/15 with an f/stop of f/5. This results were much more appropriate and I was happy with the way it turned out.

Camera_1 Part 2-2

For part 2, I maintained my shutter speed of 1/15 and turned my f/stop up to f/7. This resulted in an under exposed image.

Camera_1 Part 2-3

Part 3, I was aiming for an over exposed image. I changed my shutter speed to 1/6 and an f/stop of f/7. The tree trunk looks much brighter and a little over exposed.

Fin 247 Assignment 1 – Part 1

For this first assignment, I managed to take pictures around Matheson Lake in Victoria. It was a cloudy day but I managed to capture some photographs of the lake water and a tree. For part 3, I set up a little stage with some crystals and captured the silhouette. I am using a Canon EOS Rebel XSI, and my lens is an EFS 18-55mm.

Camera_1 Part1-1

I set my camera to Shutter mode priority (TV), my ISO to auto and set my camera to spot metering.  This image was shot with a shutter speed of 1/125 and an f stop of f/4.

Camera_1 Part 1-2

For part 1-2, I directed my spot metering onto a dark area of the scene and the shot turned out darker than the first image. This shot was taken with a shutter speed of 1/125 and an f/stop of f/4.

Camera_1 Part 1-3

For the final image in this area, I set the direction onto a bright area of the scene. This image is slightly brighter than the first 2. The shutter speed was at 1/125 and an f/stop of f/4. Within all 3 images, there wasn’t any change of my f/stop and leads me to believe there wasn’t enough variation of the brightness level.
